Thanksgiving Turkey & Food Baskets
Each year the Joseph Barry Council collects donations of turkeys, hams and money enabling us to purchase all the makings of a traditional Thanksgiving meal for between 80 to 100 needy families in our community. Every year our members, in conjunction with St. Ignatius Human Services, put together and distribute these food baskets so all members of our community may give thanks for what they have and for their friends and neighbors.
Keep Christ in Christmas
As each year passes more organizations are focused on the “Holidays” and sales. The Joseph Barry Council members can be seen posting reminder signs about the true meaning of Christmas. 20+ signs posted in our community reminding us all to “Keep Christ in Christmas”
The Past Grand Knight Lawrence Trubinski Scholarship Fund
Each year the Council awards two (2) high school students with scholarships of $500 each to help offset the cost of a Catholic education and two (2) college students scholarships of $1,000 each to help pay the costs of a higher education. The awards each year are based on the scholastic aptitude of the applicants, their involvement in their home, church, school and community and the financial needs of the applicant’s family. The applicant must be a son, daughter or legal ward of a member of the Council in good standing. Children of deceased members, whose demise occurred while in good standing, are also eligible.
Every month, after the family mass given at St. Ignatius, a light repast is provided at the Council as a chance to gather with friends over coffee, rolls and donuts.
